Individual Grades:
Reading not only improves children’s imagination and ability to recognize vocabulary, but it also instills critical thinking capabilities for young students to recognize and contribute to the classroom adequately. Reading also allows students to form opinions, thoughts, and full arguments as they read examples of such in their reading.
Reading contributes to more reading. Students read and feel successful about their reading progress, and they continue to read for their enjoyment and their progress. Children are extremely capable of understanding their own potential and accomplishments. Readers are prone to continue reading since they will see their reading comprehension scores increase. Reading comprehension scores are not the only scores that will increase, however. Vocabulary scores, spelling scores, and grammar scores will improve as well.
Indirectly related, science and math scores will improve as well. These scores are directly related to the critical thinking skills that are established by young, reading students.
Classroom Scores:
This will also affect test scores for these students. Most students that are actively reading will perform more successfully on their tests due to their ability to think critically. Most tests, especially standardized tests, are possible to succeed at if the student has strong critical thinking skills. Many tests are not reliant on mere ability to and knowledge of the specific subject. Most tests are potentially successful based upon the ability of the tested to use deductive reasoning and context clues.
The improved ability of the students also contribute to the success of the school teachers and the school. If the students are successful, the school reaps the reward of the student’s success. The state monitors each school’s test scores and rate of success for each school’s students. If a school is producing readers, they are most likely producing students who test well.
School’s should be emphasizing how important reading is as it creates strong students both for the student’s themselves and the school. This is such an important aspect of childhood development, and student’s who read will be more successful in school.
