Teachers are always finding new books to incorporate into the classroom for fun reads! However, some book are always included since they are well-loved and classics! Today we will outline the books to comprise an accurate classroom reading plan!
First Grade
- The World Belonged to Us – A book celebrating freedom and adventure, this book includes diversity, playfulness, and the ease of childhood while teaching students imaginative and creative thinking.
- Blue Sky White Stars – A poetry book full of inspiration, diversity, camaraderie, and joy over the American people.
- Freckle Juice – This book is about uniqueness, fitting in, and friendship. This is a great book for young readers who are not yet used to reading extensively, but are looking for a great story that lasts more than one sitting!
- Little Cliff’s First Day of School – A book addressing anxiety about first days of school. This is perfect for young students adjusting to public school.
- Where the Wild Things Are – Sparking Imaginations, this is a great book for young readers to encourage their imaginative thoughts.
Second Grade
- Charlotte’s Web – A great book about friendship, sacrifice, and encouragement. This book is moving and educational at once.
- Could You? Would You? – A questioning novel to entice young readers to respond and imagine the different scenarios and situations presented in the book.
- Duck for President – A funny escape from some more serious books. This book is a fun, easy read for young readers to re-introduce some comedic relief into their reading experience.
- Jumanji – This intruiging book contradicts logic and introduces imaginative play for these young readers. As the game in the book come alive, the readers may wonder about the book!
- Flat Stanley – An adventurous book that typically sparks a project for these students, sending their own Flat Stanley’s out into the world.

Third Grade
- Paddington – One of the most classic books on the list, this book introduces adventure, experience, and love all in one.
- A Man who Walked Between the Towers – A true story about a tight-rope walker. Through this book, young readers can learn about extremely special skills and talents.
- Henry’s Freedom Box – A book for the education of slavery in hopes to shape the minds of these young readers who read about this story.
- Fantastic Mr. Fox – A comedic story to lighten the reading load for the students while introducing clever and critical thinking.
- The Boxcar Children – Stories about family, friendship, and the power of remaining together.
